UBC Hospital

I was surprised by the nature of UBC hospital's "urgent care" service. I went there with severe pain in the abdomen and I had to wait for a couple of hours before I could actually see a doctor. It was not only me, there were other people seeking urgent care, for example, with broken legs, waiting in the lobby for hours. Once the lobby waiting period ends up, they will take you inside, and you have to wait there for another long period till the doctor shows up.
Another curious thing is that the service closes at 10pm. I went there once just before closing, at 9.58pm and the doctor seemed quite unhappy about it.
Overall, the service was not quite up to the expectations.

The doctors are awesome, but the reception staff are (apparently) very slow and unfriendly, very much unlike the student health services people. (Not that I have a grudge, but I feel others should be prepared for such situations. They probably have to work like machines all they dealing with thousands of all kinds of people). There is a long wait pretty much everywhere -- and surprisingly, at the urgent care center too. The urgent care center is also closed after 10pm, and on weekends!

Once you are inside, and once the doctor shows up, s/he would take care of you quite well. The doctors are very competent, and you will feel very confident that you are in good hands.
